Aiken’s Southern charm runs deep… but some say so do its spirits! If you love a good ghost story, check out a few of the most haunted spots around town... and consider booking a walking or driving ghost tour for more fun in Spooky Season:

📬 Old Aiken Post Office (now Savannah River Nuclear Site building)

Legend tells the tale of a dedicated worker in the old post office who went up on the iconic rotunda in a storm to lower the flag and tragically fell to his death. Some even speculate that his death was no accident as he was part of an ill-fated love triangle! On dark stormy nights locals say you can glimpse a figure falling that never seems to hit the ground….

🏨 The Old Hotel Aiken

Before it was closed and boarded up, countless guests claimed to feel a “presence” in the halls. One story tells of a woman in white seen gliding down the grand staircase, said to be a heartbroken bride who met a tragic end there decades ago. Locals still swear her spirit lingers, keeping watch over her beloved hotel.

🕯️ St. Thaddeus Cemetery

By day, it’s one of Aiken’s most peaceful places. But at night, visitors have reported flickering lights, the soft sound of church bells, and even ghostly figures among the headstones. It’s a beautiful reminder that Aiken’s history—and perhaps its people—live on in mysterious ways.

Whether you believe in ghosts or just love a good story, Aiken has a haunting kind of beauty this time of year.
