Southern Culture for Newcomers: Package Stores

When I first moved to Aiken from Seattle in 2008, I thought Package Stores were like UPS outlets or something… and, boy, did Southerners sure seem to ship a lot of packages! I saw those three dots everywhere! 😂

Locals already get the joke… but for visitors and newcomers, a “package store” or “ABC store” is Southern for liquor store, and three big dots are the symbol often used on the front of the store.

Are package stores a thing outside of the South?
